Business Management Course UK

Business Management has a distinctive set of teaching and research interests. We believe that the most productive way of studying Business Management is to take a critical perspective on what goes on in organisations, along with a thorough exploration of the 'nuts and bolts' of fundamental business skills and knowledge.
For this reason, our teaching and our research moves between the basic techniques and practices used in particular functions of management (such as accounting, marketing, human resource management) and a concern with understanding these techniques within their given historical and cultural contexts.
We believe that it is important to think about and debate not just technical issues, but also social trends, cultural context and ethical issues. We encourage students to critically engage with management practice grounded in a thorough appreciation of the mechanics of contemporary organisations. We try to foster creative and pragmatic thinking with the belief that business and organisational futures can only be realised by thinking through the wider issues raised by current practice

Study at Dundee UK

Study at Dundee
The three Drug Discovery-based degrees – Biological Chemistry and Drug Discovery, Drug Design and Mechanisms and Biomolecular Drug Discovery – are concerned with healthcare – the design, chemical synthesis and testing of new medicines. Drug Discovery is a practical science at the interface between Chemistry, Pharmacology and Biology that includes modern computational methods. We live in a new era with detailed knowledge of genes and the abilities to determine three-dimensional molecular structures and to create complex molecules. These Drug Discovery degrees utilise these facets to identify drug targets against diseases such as cancer, diabetes, malaria and AIDS and to design and create new cures and safer, more effective drugs whilst also allowing you to specialise in one of three areas, namely chemistry, biochemistry or pharmacology.
The College of Life Sciences is superbly placed to deliver these Drug Discovery degrees. The University of Dundee's world-renowned research activities in molecular and cell biology and drug design mean that students are taught by a team of experts who work at the cutting edge of their field. Each of the three Drug Discovery Honours degrees is available either as a five-year programme with a year in industry or a four-year programme without a year in industry. Advanced Entry at Level 2 of these programmes is available for suitably qualified students. The degrees with a year in industry provide an exciting opportunity for work experience with a leading local or international biotechnology or pharmaceutical company with which the University of Dundee has close links.

Employablility
"I have observed placement students, at Axis-Shield Diagnostics, grow in their confidence and willingness to contribute to research programmes. This will benefit them in their return to University and also their future careers." Dr Murdo Black, (R&D Director, Axis-Shield Ltd, Dundee).
Any one of these related degrees can lead to a wide range of careers including research and development in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries; chemical, pharmaceutical or biomedical research in universities or research institutes; teaching in further or higher education; scientific publishing; scientific patenting or further professional education and training. The interdisciplinary nature of the programmes also provides generic skills that are applicable to many careers. These degrees are recognised by The Royal Society of Chemistry for associate membership (AMRSC).

Teaching and Assessment
We use a variety of teaching methods, with lectures and practicals forming the core. In addition, we use workshops, tutorials, computer-aided learning, and field excursions, as appropriate to each module.
All modules are assessed by a combination of in-course and end-of-course procedures. Regular in-course assessments (e.g. practical reports, computer-based exercises, essays and data processing exercises) provide feedback on your progress and help you prepare for end-of-module examinations. On-line assignments are used extensively at Levels 1 and 2, with access via a PC on or off campus. Peer assessment operates in many team projects.
There are regular meetings of staff-student liaison committees. While this provides a forum for formal contact, there is also opportunity for informal contact between you and academic staff, whom you will find friendly and approachable.

Motorsport Design Engineering

Courses in automotive and motorsport engineering have been delivered at Hamilton Campus since 1984. The BEng Honours degree in motorsport engineering is the only course of its kind in Scotland. Our graduates work in many vehicle manufacturers, component manufacturers and racing teams.
This programme aims first and foremost to prepare students for a career as a design engineer, then as a motorsport engineer. Some students will have a keen desire to work in motorsport, and we aim to provide them with the key skills that will give them a good start in this industry. Equally some students will undertake this course because they have a passion for vehicles and motorsports and want to learn more about them while gaining a qualification that prepares them for a career as a design engineer in any branch of engineering.
We aim to prepare students for employment as designers and engineers. The generic analytical and design skills sets developed will serve equally well in any area of engineering while many of the ‘motorsport’ skills developed in areas such as data acquisition and weight efficient design are highly transferable to other industries.
The aim is to provide practical experiences as well as theoretical study. Students will have opportunities to work on motorsport vehicles and to attend and take part in test sessions at a racing circuit. Subject to insurance and licensing conditions, students will have opportunities to drive motorsport vehicles. Many of our previous students have taken part in the International Formula Student competition, now held at Silverstone Racing circuit. This requires the team to conceive, design, manufacture and develop a small single seater racing car, and then compete against some of the top European and worldwide Universities. This involves both driving events, design evaluation and business presentations.
We have recently upgraded our product design computer laboratories to the latest workstation specification, and you will be taught using the industry leading Pro-Engineer Wildfire Design and Simulation software. A new Engineering Centre with fully-equipped manufacturing, and motorsport workshops, polymer engineering facilities, fully-equipped model making and prototyping studio and assembly and welding laboratories, recently opened on the campus. There are also state-of-the-art teaching facilities and social and recreational space. We have invested in similar equipment used by many race and rally teams and you will have an opportunity to gain useful experience setting up and racing engineering competition vehicles.

The emphasis of the course is on planning and selection of applications and not programming. The course provides our graduates with a solid grounding in engineering, manufacturing planning and management and quality tools and techniques. more details : www.study-uk.info

Computer-Aided Design

There is increasing pressure on manufacturing organisations to be more productive and efficient and pro-active to market needs. This has meant that manufacturers have had to adopt new, faster and functionally advanced design, manufacturing and communication tools in order to maintain a competitive advantage. Current computer modelling techniques enable sophisticated design software to be used at an early stage in the design, prototype development and manufacture of a product.
The course is a tertiary level, two-year programme of study which will provide students with the opportunity to enhance existing qualifications in design, or a related area, to degree and Honours level. The course focuses on the selection, use and development of modern design and development software tools.
During your studies you will gain experience of using sophisticated CAD/CAM packages, analysis software, prototyping systems and ancillary equipment. You will also be introduced to modern communications technologies, which enable quick responses to supplier organisations, customers and the global marketplace.
The degree programme provides students with hands-on experience of the basic principles and on the application of CAD/CAM, associated systems and techniques. The Honours year will provide students with a more in-depth knowledge of the broader spectrum of design and manufacturing systems and the importance of systems integration. Students will also undertake both individual and group-based projects in an appropriate subject area.
