Non-Medical Prescribing

This course is validated by the NMC and the Health Professions Council, and aims to prepare eligible health practitioners to prescribe independently or supplementary from the British National Formulary (BNF).It can be taken as a 20 week module at Paisley Campus at Level 11, or as two modules (practice and theory) at Level 9 over 6 months, either on campus or by blended learning. The theoretical content is delivered by pharmacists, doctors and clinical specialists, and includes the pharmacology of the main drug groups in the BNF, principles of accountability, and the local and national legislation of prescribing. The practice element is undertaken in the student’s clinical area with the supervision of a designated medical supervisor. Theory and practice are both assessed, and a pass in all elements of the course is necessary to gain a prescribing qualification. On completion of the course the qualification must be recorded on the NMC/HPC register. more details : www.study-uk.info
